My Personal Experiences:

Drove along the main street of Las Vegas at mid-day in summer 1995  and thought the city was more like a ghost town. Stopped over at Hard Rock Cafe for a sundae to cool off. The crowds appeared after sunset from nowhere. People walked at the sidewalks, cars lined up and the neons displayed.

Chicago, Illinois, USA – Fell in love with the Navy Pier where I rode the speed boat for the first time in my life. It was also kinda romantic when me and HY then my highschool sweetheart (now husband) watched Chicago’s sunset on a sail boat.

Went to Adler Planetarium and  learned about the stars, moon, planets, etc.

Aquarium – we went to see the Frog Exhibition. Small, big, black, green, yellow froggies..

Oh, New York! The car we rented was towed away. We parked in front of the ‘Men in Black’ building and was 3 minutes late. At 4.05pm (rush hour), we saw the car being towed away. We took a cabbie (gosh, what a ride) to the compound and paid USD150.00 to get the car back. That was a lot of money for a college kid! new-york-city

San Francisco was beautiful. Slept in our rented car by the bay facing the Golden Bridge as we reached SF as early as 4:00am. Such exhaustive journey from Grand Canyon North Rim in Arizona. The Golden Bridge view was worth it despite the cool summer breeze.

San Francisco that summer was packed with summer tourists, so we didn’t get the ferry tickets to go to Alcatraz. Fisherman’s Wharf was lovely though. san-fransisco

However, my biggest regret was unable to go to the Lombard Street because it was closed due to construction or road upgrade.

HY and I brought Liya to Paris in 2003. She was only 4 months old and slept most of the journey. The public transportation was reliable. I learned some French so that I could ask for a bargain when buying souvenirs. True enough, I managed to get Euro1.00 cheaper when I asked the seller in French. Otherwise, the price for a picture frame is fixed at Euro5.00 in plain simple English.

We took the Metro train and went downtown to Eiffel Tower, River Seine and Napolean Bonaparte’s castle. Arc de Triomph was great looking in real life.

I particularly love the hot rod which decorated lower half of most of the French balcony. HY loves the croissants and fromage…
