Last Sunday, we stopped at Rawang rest area, PLUS highway. Restaurants are aplenty so do the parking spaces. Had a quick bite at Burger King where Liya and Ajib collected the paper crowns and pretended to be a prince and princess while eating. I love the mozarella (almost got it right this time “mot-za-rel-lah)sticks! The price, almost RM10 for a child’s meal is a bit costly for an average (working) Malaysian.
Another pit stop routine would be checking out the toilets. In my observation, the toilets are well-maintained. There should be large enough trash cans at the rest area because I have gathered all the ‘trash’ from the car in a Tesco-sized plastic bag.
We walked towards our car and passed the playground. A father was seen inhaling deeply a cigarette while standing close to the slide. There was no smoking sign anywhere. At least 5 children were playing on the ‘safe padded flooring playground’ except that they were inhaling tar and nicotine too. This could be okay to some but I urge many parents out there to be considerate and be health conscious.
I grew up around smokers in the family. So, I can’t say if I never smoked in my life. That would be not entirely true. I have been exposed as a secondary smoker all my life! So do YOU!
I have another example of how parents can jeopardize children’s lives. This was a few years back. I was looking at a young couple at a restaurant. They look descent and educated. Their baby was sitting on the baby chair. The young parents patiently feeding the baby and all. A few minutes later, the MOMMY took out a cigarette from her branded handbag and lit it. Puffs away… “the baby sees, later does it”
I could not stand the sight of them and started thinking that parents raise the children and parents also kill the children unintentionally…
We could help many children by not risking their lives. Letting them breathe polluted air is sinful. Hospitals and airports have restricted smoking area. More environmental thought provoking articles and activities in the link below: http://www.wildasia.net/
