Pledge of Love
By Azian Arif (4th November 2008)

Moments in the heaven
Pure souls awaiting a chance
To be a human
To understand the world

Moments in the womb
All the care for you
Unknowingly to hold nor to comfort
Little we know about you

Moments passed by
Feeling the warmth of sunlight
Seeing the amazing moonlight
You came into our life
Promising all happiness
Bridging hopes of many generations

Moments on earth
Cheery and teary details
Carving bittersweet memories
We have given our faith and hopes
You have learned to love

Moments may come to an end
A journey so worthwhile
We may go after knowing you have become
A person worthy of love

This is the moment
We whisper our love
We let love guide you
We pray Allah to bestow upon you
My sweet, beloved child
The greatest love of all
Till eternity

Mommy’s chores

The telephone rings, reminding the overdue bills

The kids yell, fighting over the last chocolate chip cookies

The parents visit, saying they miss the kids

The inlaws call, checking your calendar for a gathering

The beautician sends the text, informing you must come for the body wrap

The car jerks, signaling the maintenance service duly due

The garden, blooming in red, pink and yellow

The neighbours chat, updating news in the neighbourhood

The husband later sighs, confirming the dinner is too salty

The maid works obediently, cleaning and doing dishes and laundry

After one day’s work:-

The pillow, looking too soft and tempting
